"Tarantula" by Thierry Jonquet (Serpent's Tail, 2005, 124 pages, ISBN 1-85242-895-3) Amazon
Having seen this in some discussions on TGComics I was interested to read this story. This a short, but deeply disturbed, story of obsessive revenge taken by a gifted plastic surgeon on the men who wrecked his daughters life. I felt the author was being a bit too clever in the story was told in the form of a series of flash backs to the various characters as it developed. It is arguable that there are no characters for whom we should really have much sympathy except for the daughter Viviane who is a wreck in an asylum.
I cannot really say that I enjoyed reading this.
Then it is time to take a look at Almodovar's movie based on the book. Somehow, none of the commentators saw that this was a crossdreamer fantasy!
